Elon Town Center and Samet Corporation give free ice cream ‘thank you’

By Kellye Coleman

Construction for the new Elon Town Center is underway and has required that part of the sidewalk along Williamson Avenue remain unavailable to pedestrians. Similarly, the work has produced a considerable amount of noise over the past few weeks. In order to thank the community for its patience, the Town Center and Samet Corporation, the Greensboro-based company hired to build the three-story building, hosted a free ice cream social on Wednesday afternoon. The event was held on the lawn across from the new building.

Smitty’s Homemade Ice Cream handed out a variety of their homemade flavors, including cake batter, brown sugar oatmeal and chocolate, while the members of the Samet Corporation set up a booth to give out information and conduct a free raffle for a pair of iPod shuffles. Members of the Elon community lined up for the mid-day treat.

The town center will be home to Elon’s bookstore, as well as several additional venues and shops. It is set to open in time for the 2011-2012 school year.

  1. Love the slide show! I am quite disappointed that I never got over there to get any of the delicious ice cream, though.
